If you are interested in music, marketing, production, news, sports, or other areas associated with radio, we have an opportunity for you! Our purpose is to offer a new and rewarding personal experience to our people while they learn about all aspects of Radio Broadcasting.

Yale Broadcasting's state of the art facilities include digital production and on-air studios as well as a myriad of other broadcasting and new technology resources. Our team of professional and student managers brings decades of experience and excellence to our organization and ensure that everyone at WYBC gets the most from their tenure with us.

Our stations (WYBC-AM and WYBC-FM) reach over 50,000 people every week, with WYBC-FM consistently ranking among the top radio stations in the New Haven Market. Since a critical part of our training program is hands on interaction at these high profile stations, we believe that no other company can offer you such an exciting and meaningful learning experience.

Training occurs semi-annually in February and October and is open to Yale Undergraduate students and all others. Space is limited, and there may be a waiting list to enroll in our program. Applications are accepted any time.

Requirements:

Yale Undergraduate Students:
1. An application letter (150-750 words) describing why you would like to be a part of WYBC.
2. A copy of a valid Yale University Undergraduate ID

Graduate Students, Faculty, Staff, and all others

3. Two letters of Recommendation.

Restrictions:

1. You must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. You must demonstrate an ability to work with MS Windows based computers.
3. If you own, are employed by, or are affiliated with any other radio station, or are a part of any other promotions, music or advertising company, then you are ineligible for membership.
4. There may be a waiting list. You will be contacted if your application is approved for the next available training program.
5. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Program Requirements:

WYBC’s Training curriculum is offered each academic semester and consists of a series of lectures, and 5 practical/laboratory training periods all given over an eight to ten week period. Each lecture or laboratory workshop lasts about one hour to one hour and 20 minutes. Attendance for all lectures and workshops is mandatory.

After the lectures and laboratory training ends, there is a certification test. . There is a “critical section” on the test, consisting of FCC and other station requirements. All of the “critical section” questions must be answered correctly to pass. Additionally, an overall score of 90 or better is required to pass the test and to render an applicant eligible for on air work at WYBC.
